Champions League: Rio Ferdinand named one player, who struck Juventus 2: 1 defeat Ajax


The Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, welcomed 19-year-old Ajax captain Mattis de Ligt after the Dutch side expelled Juventus from the Champions League on Tuesday.

De Ligt won in Ajax with a score of 2: 1, when they were in the last four competitions.

Ferdinand described de Ligt as "the best young defender on the planet" after his outstanding performance in the game.

The 19-year-old football player scored the second goal of his team, when the Dutch giants stunned Juventus with a 3-2 victory.

“De Ligt, the best young midfielder on the planet,” said the former England defender at BT Sport.

“He has a wonderful and majestic ability to play ball and there also scored a huge goal.

“The mix they got with younger and more experienced older players - Tadic was almost surrendered to Southampton and now works wonders in the Champions League this year.

"These are exciting times for Ajax."
