The legend of "Manchester United" and the head of the Academy of the club Nikki Butt on Tuesday was arrested on suspicion of assault.
Sportsmail reported that a 44-year-old man was detained by police on Tuesday at 14:00 after reports that a woman was attacked several hours before United beat Barcelona in the second match of the Champions League quarter-finals.
Butt remained in custody until the evening and was interrogated by officers.
It was reported that the woman had a small cut on her arm, and she did not need hospital treatment.
A spokesman for the Greater Manchester Police said: “On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at around 2:00 pm, the police were summoned to the police to report an attack on a woman in a house on Broadway, in Hale.
“The woman received a small cut on her arm and does not require inpatient treatment.
"A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for interrogation."
It was also reported that the former midfielder was released from custody.
His arrest occurred after another Manchester United legend Paul Scholes was accused of abusive behavior by the FA for hosting 140 football matches.
