Champions League: Joseph Yobo reacts as Ajax destroys Juventus

Former Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo stressed that Ajax’s victory over Juventus was not an accident.

He noted that the same young side of Ajax also excluded Real Madrid owners in the round of sixteen.

Yobo also predicted that the Dutch side would go all the way to the final.

Ajax Amsterdam performed another miracle by knocking out Juventus from the Champions League on Tuesday evening after winning 2: 1 at the Alliance stadium in Turin.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the 28th minute, only Donnie van de Beek equalized with the Dutch club six minutes before Mattis de Ligt got the winning goal in the 67th minute.

Yobo said in his post-match analysis of SuperSport: “They completely dominated the game, they came to this game with full conviction that they could get something out of it, that they could win this game, and it was not impossible.

“They play very well. The second half they had a lot of chances, I thought that this game could have ended 3-1, they did everything they had to do.

“This is a special and memorable moment in the Champions League for Ajax, fame and great congratulations.

“It has been 22 years since they reached the semifinals, this is very impressive, this team has done something special.

“Now they look like one of the favorites. Can they reach the final, can they win the semi-final?

“If they continue to play the way they play, this is the conviction that, whatever happens, they can have the best in every game they play.

“These are not just goals, this is performance, they actually dominated the second half.

“It's good to know that they have mental strength, because they were 1-0, they could have lowered their heads, but they got up, they were at their best.

“They put, they played, they believed in themselves, so much respect for this team, this is not an accident.

“They did it against Real Madrid, today they did it again, this is a special team.”
